Ion completes Rhyl Pavilion Theatre

Contractor Wynne and developer Ion have handed over a £2.4m transformation of Rhyl’s Pavilion Theatre as part of an ongoing development programme in the North Wales seaside town.

The £2.4m project includes the full refurbishment of the theatre, full remodelling of its front and rear entrances, and an expansion to its car park to provide an additional 62 spaces. It also includes a new restaurant, named 1891 after the theatre’s original opening date.

The theatre, owned and operated by Denbighshire Council, has also been re-clad as part of the project, designed by architect S&P.

It forms part of a wider redevelopment of Rhyl’s seafront, which includes the demolition of the Sun Centre and the construction of a £15m water park.

Construction work on the 12,000 sq ft facility started in October last year, with ISG in place as main contractor.

Steve Parry, managing director of Ion Development said: “The Pavilion Theatre has been a brilliant example of how to restore and remodel an entertainment or leisure area using the core of the original structure. The re-model and the new restaurant will breathe new life into the theatre and the waterfront in Rhyl.”

Cllr Hugh Evans, leader of Denbighshire Council, added: “The refurbishment of the Pavilion Theatre has improved the offer and ensures this fantastic theatre will remain a first-class venue for many years to come.

“Along with other developments in the town, the refurbished Pavilion Theatre is enhancing the draw for visitors to the town and provides residents with great facilities as well.”
