HS2 compensation feedback extended
The deadline for responses to the exceptional hardship scheme aimed at compensating property owners affected by phase two of High Speed 2 has been extended from Monday 29 April to Monday 20 May.
The link from Birmingham to Manchester would include a connection with the West Coast Main Line south of Crewe, with the main line continuing northwards in a tunnel under the town. It would cross over the M6 and then the M56, and then head up past Warrington to a further connection with the West Coast Main Line south of Wigan.
The Manchester stations would be served by a spur off the main line running roughly parallel with the M56 towards Manchester Airport. The airport station would be located between junctions 5 and 6 of the M56 as the line approaches the main built-up area of Manchester. Heading north from here the line would enter a seven-and-a-half mile tunnel, surfacing a short distance from the new station alongside the existing station at Manchester Piccadilly.
The exceptional hardship scheme consultation is not part of the formal consultation on the HS2 route and stations, which is due to start any time from July of this year.
