House prices rise in North West

The North West has recorded the greatest monthly rise in house prices, according to latest figures from the Land Registry.

The report said an increase of 0.7% from February to March 2011 was recorded in the region putting average house prices at £116,446.

However, the annual change showed a decrease of 2.9% compared to March 2010.

No other region recorded monthly rises as house prices fell across the North East, London, East, West Midlands, South West, Yorkshire, West Midlands, South East, East Midlands and Wales.

The March data from Land Registry's house price index showed an annual price decrease of 2.3% which takes the average property value in England and Wales to £160,996. The monthly change from February to March is a decrease of 1.1%.
