Elliot sticks with Newry for Wolstenholme Square

Newry Construction has been selected as the main contractor for Elliot Group’s £40m transformation of Liverpool’s Wolstenholme Square.

The news follows Mee Group’s demolition of a group of low-grade post-war warehouses which dominated the site.

“Newry Construction have performed time and again for us and were able to demonstrate how they could apply the same methodology to deliver quality and value at Wolstenholme Square,” said Elliot Lawless, director of Elliot Group.

Construction of the Falconer Chester Hall-designed scheme will begin in August and is expected to take 18 months to complete.

White Young Green have been appointed as employer’s agent and project managers. Clancy have been appointed civil and structural engineers whilst Abacus are the scheme’s service engineers. Neil Swanson of Landscape Projects has been tasked with working with international artist Jorge Pardo to deliver the refurbishment of the square’s famous Penelope sculpture and associated landscape works. The Liverpool office of lawyers Hill Dickinson is managing all the contractual elements of the project.

The development will deliver five blocks ranging in height from three to 10 storeys, providing 447 studio and one bedroom apartments as well as a new passageway through to Seel Street, lined by shops, cafes and offices.
