Cumbria Vision chairman heads Government skills panel

Roger Liddle, chairman of economic development agency Cumbria Vision, has been appointed to the same post at a new Government advisory panel for 'new industry, new jobs, universities and skills'.

Liddle said: "I'm really delighted to be involved in this important advisory group; not least because many of the issues it will deal with are highly relevant to Cumbria, such as the Britain's Energy Coast initiative and the further development of the University of Cumbria.

"In Britain and Cumbria an innovative approach is needed if we are to compete in the new global economy – ensuring businesses have the skills they need to grow and develop lies at the heart of success. In Cumbria we boast world-class skills in the nuclear and maritime industries, but there is huge potential to develop and diversify into new industries which stimulate new investment and help create high paid jobs.

"I'm excited by the challenge of this new role and look forward to helping shape a policy which benefits both Britain and Cumbria."

The appointment to the advisory panel does not affect his role as chairman of Cumbria Vision.
