Crosby consults on 15-year strategy

Local residents are invited to attend two consultation events to give their views on the latest draft of the Crosby investment strategy, which outlines plans for a retail led, mixed-use scheme in the town centre.

The strategy will include a vision to 2030 to support the regeneration objectives for Crosby, clarity on the future of the village centre, regeneration sites and design guidance.

The plan outlines development proposals for three sites in the town centre, at Moor Lane and Allengate, Islington and Church Road, and Moor Lane and the bypass. There are a range of options for each site, with a mix of retail, residential and leisure included, at no more than four storeys in height. The strategy includes works to Islington, Richmond Road and the bypass to improve the key entrance points.

The draft has been put together by regeneration and development consultancy Nexus Planning, working alongside Sefton Council, the Crosby steering group and the local community.

Nexus Planning was appointed by Sefton Council to produce the strategy earlier this year. In July the first stage of public engagement was undertaken on the draft proposals, with around 500 people visiting the exhibition and 240 completed feedback forms.

The responses helped to identify the three regeneration sites, and define the parameters of the development.

Rhian Stratton, associate at Nexus Planning, said: "Crosby has great potential. There are opportunities that have been unrealised in the past and with the council we are seeking to unlock these.

"We are also working to bring about the environmental improvements that will bring people back to their village. We need the community's support however to help us deliver this positive change."

Cllr Ian Maher, Sefton Council's cabinet member for regeneration and tourism, said: "The first consultation event was a great success with the majority of people agreeing with the draft strategy.

"We have taken on board the many views received and have shaped the strategy accordingly. We hope as many people as possible come along to the next events to have their say."

The first public engagement event takes place on Saturday 27 September, 10am – 4pm in the former Lloyds Pharmacy Unit, Moor Lane, Crosby village. A second event will be held on Thursday 2 October, 3pm – 7pm, also in the former Lloyds Pharmacy.

People can view the material from the event and submit their response at between 27 September and 12 October.
