Councils sign up for town centre summit

Join with area managers from Rochdale, Tameside, Halton, Preston, Bolton, Trafford, Knowsley and Cheshire West & Chester councils at Future of Town Centres on 27 November.

All these local authorities have already signed up to attend the conference in Manchester next month organised by Place North West.

Local authorities will be joined by private sector delegates from Lambert Smith Hampton, Legat Owen, Deloitte Real Estate, Ryder Landscape Consultants, and Walsingham Planning among others to have signed up so far.

Future of Town Centres is a full-day conference arranged to offer property folk the opportunity to examine the state of the retail and leisure markets and debate ideas for remaking the high street. This event is due to take place on Wednesday 27 November at Bruntwood's conference centre on the 24th floor of City Tower in Piccadilly, Manchester.

The event will include expert presentations from a cross-section of property specialists covering such topics as the rise of food and beverage on the high street, prospects for secondary towns, public policy around development finance and supporting retailers, destination marketing, and future cinema designs.

The speakers confirmed so far feature:

  • Lisa Durkin, North West Town Team & Portas Pilots Advisor, Association of Town Centre Management. Update on this high-profile initiative to turn around ailing centres
  • Simon Bedford, Partner, Deloitte Real Estate. How should Greater Manchester boroughs respond to challenges facing high street?
  • Keith Davies, Director of Development & Regeneration, Bolton Council. Latest on Greater Manchester Town Centre Strategy and Bolton's regeneration priorities
  • John Sullivan, Director, Dcinex. Can cinema-led regeneration transform town centres?
  • Stephen O'Malley, Director, Civic Engineers. Reclaiming the heart of our town centres
  • Mike Horner, Regional Director, Muse Developments. Perspective from developer active today in Stockport, Chester, Blackpool, Warrington
