Trio of towns to launch Mid Cheshire Plan

Middlewich, Northwich, and Winsford – all within 10 kilometres of each other – are set to bind together to build a consensus on economic priorities and growth strategies after Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet voted unanimously to approve the plan.

The tri-town plan, known as the Mid Cheshire Plan, will aim to “draw together strengths”, “bring economic investment”, and introduce “effective governance” through the establishment of the Mid Cheshire Partnership.

It spans two councils as Middlewich is in Cheshire East.

Warrington-based advisor Mickledore drew up the strategy presented to Cheshire West and Chester Council, which outlines a strategy to “accelerate regeneration schemes”, “remove barriers to investment”, and to “make Mid Cheshire’s economy stronger, greener, and fairer”.

The Mid Cheshire Partnership, responsible for the plan’s delivery, will tie in closely with Cheshire and Warrington’s ambitions to secure devolved powers from the government.

Expected to comprise 12-16 members, the partnership will also include the MP for Mid Cheshire, a senior representative from the NHS, social housing providers, transport providers, the College, the VCSE sector, and local businesses – recruitment to the partnership will start in June 2025.

Action will be taken to promote the development of infrastructure, including the provision of active travel routes and the promotion of existing public transport – the group will also help with lobbying for funding.

Cheshire West and Chester Council expects that private sector investment, volunteer time, and external funding will be essential to deliver on the plan’s actions.

Another plan!

Done by a consultancy firm which doesn’t understand the Mid cheshire area just like the last one for Barons quay! mistake! still loads of empty units there!

Already had a quick 5 minute look at the plan and there’s obvious errors in the plan due to them not understanding the history and the area.

Infrastructure is key for the area!
Yes we need buses but it’s the train lines and Middlewich station which are the biggest problems!

1) New Middlewich station and train line to Northwich

2). Three mile yes 3 mile western link – Mid cheshire line to Manchester airport station!

3) Mid cheshire train line has been in the top tier for electrification to Manchester for at least 20 years!

1 hr to Manchester is just totally wrong!
loads of Mancs have moved to the big Winnington village so need to get back to visit relatives!

The western link – Mid cheshire line to Manchester airport station, would be a game changer for mid Cheshire. Journey time from Northwich to Piccadilly would go down from 55 mins to 35 mins, but the big saving is to Manchester Airport. It currently takes 55mins to Piccadilly, then a walk to platform 13 and a wait for a train, call that 10 mins, then a 15 min train journey to the airport, using the Western link it would only take 20 mins, saving a whopping 60 mins!! It’s not only mid Cheshire that wouod benefit, transport for Wales could reroute its trains to Piccadilly and the airport this way,rather than going via warrington bank quay and the very congested castlefield corridor, all this for 3 miles of track. They even built manchester airport station with this link in mind.

Government official at all levels only understand Business Management bookkeeping with their silly “Business Cases”. That is why the Economic benefits of infrastructure investment are never harvested. They think they are running a Sweet Store not a National Economy.
