Bolton trials free town centre bus service

Bolton council has become the first Greater Manchester authority to introduce the Metroshuttle outside of Manchester city centre.

Two 25-seater single decker buses will operate on a 20-minute circular route around the town centre with a total of 11 stops, connecting the railway station via Newport Street with the bus station via Black Horse Street.

The £200,000 scheme will be trialled for 12 months, with the council contributing £150,000 and the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority £50,000.

The buses will operate every 10 minutes between 7.30am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturdays.

If successful, the service could be expanded to cover a route bound by St Peter's Way to the east, Topp Way to the north, Marsden Way to the west and Trinity Street to the south.
