Asteer adds senior director

Richard Lloyd has joined the Manchester-based boutique planning consultancy from law firm Eversheds Sutherland.

Joining from the start of June, Lloyd will provide strategic planning advice to the growing firm. He is a legal adviser with more than 30 years’ experience, specialising in areas including EIA and compulsory purchase.

Major projects he has worked on include sites for the London 2012 Olympic Games, and the regeneration of Salford Central.

Jon Suckley, managing partner at Asteer, said: “I have known Richard for over 15 years and we have worked together on a number of significant and complex housing, commercial and regeneration schemes.

“It is great to be able to welcome Richard as a senior director to our team and for Asteer and our clients to benefit from his knowledge and experience.

“Not only will Richard bring new opportunities for the business but our team can benefit and learn from his expertise which will also add significant value to the full range of planning and EIA services that we offer. His land assembly and compulsory purchase expertise also means that we can provide advice on downstream project delivery, as part of a full-service offering.”

Suckley established Asteer in 2021. The firm is based at Calico, Mosley Street.

Lloyd, who is also a trustee of the Seashell Trust, added: “After over 30 years in the legal profession, I am hugely excited about the new direction in my career. My role at Asteer will mean that I will not just be focussed on planning law matters, but will be able to have a broader involvement in schemes and be more involved in strategic and tactical matters.

“I am also delighted to be joining the superb team at Asteer, who in my experience bring a real expertise, commerciality and energy to projects. I consider them to be one the industry’s leading practices, and I look forward to helping Asteer to grow and build on the phenomenal success they have had to date.”

In addition, Asteer has announced two promotions, with Mike Fisher moving up to senior environmental consultant in Asteer Planning and Michael Harrison becoming senior strategic land & planning lead in the Asteer Strategic arm.

Asteer now has a team of 22, which includes services providing planning (urban regeneration, commercial, housing and strategic land) and EIA advice.

Current clients and projects include FEC on Victoria North; HBD; Muse on the redevelopments of Prestwich and Wythenshawe town centres, and Stockport County FC on its stadium expansion.

The firm also works with housebuilders and land promoters including David Wilson Homes, Story Homes, Anwyl Homes and Richborough Estates.
