Sunday Times Rich List released: where did the heads of Grosvenor and Peel land?
Neither John Whittaker nor Hugh Grosvenor topped the list for the North West – that honour went to a Preston-born hedge fund manager.
Michael Platt is the North West’s richest person, according to The Sunday Times Rich List, which was published on 20 May. He is valued at £10bn.
Duke of Westminster Hugh Grosvenor and his family are the second richest in the region and the 13th in the country. The Grosvenor family is worth £9.726bn according to the report, which said the family’s value had decreased by £328m over the past year.
Blackburn brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa, founders of Euro Garages and majority shareholders in Asda, are the fifth richest in the region. Reportedly worth £4.73bn, they are also the 39th richest in the country.
Peel Group owners John Whittaker and his family were ranked eighth richest in the region, with their fortune increase £200m to make them worth £1.6bn, according to The Sunday Times. Whittaker is ranked as the 112th richest in the country overall, up eight places from the year before.
Henry Moser, the owner of Cheadle-based mortgage lender Together, and his family are worth £1.565bn and followed just below Whittaker in the North West rankings. Moser grew his value by £463m and jumped from 156th richest in the country in 2021 to the 116th spot.
Gambling titans Fred and Peter Done rounded out the top ten richest list for the North West, and are allegedly worth £1.476bn. Fred Done is also the co-founder of the development company Salboy.

There is an eye opening article done by Money Guru, which claims the North West is the birthplace of more super rich than any other region, including London, by some considerable margin. Lancashire is the most successful county for self made people with 8 percent of the whole total, with Manchester just behind on 7 percent. The North West in total has produced 22 per cent of Britain’s self made people.
