EasyHotel conversion to begin this month in Northern Quarter

Styles & Wood will start on site at the end of June as the main contractor for the conversion of the grade two-listed Bradley House in Manchester into a 114-bedroom budget hotel, designed by Buttress Architects.

EasyHotel is part of the budget hotel chain founded by easyJet tycoon Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

Buttress Architects’ conversion of a shipping warehouse into Manchester’s first easyHotel is to start on-site on 27 June.

The hotel at the corner of Dale Street and Newton Street is conceived as a series of rooms ‘stored’ within the refurbished Bradley House, which is a former shipping warehouse.

The building will be restored with new windows to the ground and lower ground floors, reinstating the original facades. The original goods entrance on Dale Street will be the main entry to the building.

Gavin Sorby, managing director of Buttress Architects, said: “It’s a fantastic use for a building that has gone through a difficult period in recent years, and a great location for the hotel. The wider advantage of easyHotel is the contribution it will make to the rejuvenation of this part of Manchester. The absence of front of house facilities within the hotel creates a ready market for nearby businesses to service.”

Buttress is working with Paragon Building Consultancy as project manager.

Will bring increased footfall to the area, which is great for local businesses. I wonder what the inevitable stag and hen do clientele will do for the “edgy” character of the Northern Quarter?

This area will finish up like the Village. That used to be Bohemian and now is a Hen and Stag Hellhole. The Village lost it’s edginess because the owners of the bars saw pound signs and drove out the loyal customers.

Completely agree with the “elephant”

Please no mega orange branding. Agree with other contributors. When the brands move in, the zeitgeist population moves on.

This has already happened, have you been there on a Saturday night recently? Heaving with wrong’uns compared to 5 years ago.

Still the bearded and ironically bespecaled contingent, but they are now a minority.
