Network Rail has released a driver’s view image of the new railway crossing over the River Irwell, on an 89-metre-long bridge installed as part of the £320m Ordsall Chord rail link.
Ordsall Chord is a railway line currently under construction, which will connect Manchester’s Victoria and Piccadilly train stations for the first time. The line is due to open later this year.
The 600-tonne weathered steel bridge was lifted into place last month.
The asymmetrical ‘bowstring bridge’ was designed by BDP, and is the first of its kind to be built in the UK.
Main contractors are Skanska and Bam Nuttall for Network Rail.
