Preston approves housing strategy
Preston City Council has approved a strategy to build 20,000 new homes in central Lancashire by 2026.
Together with Chorley Council and South Ribble Council, Preston has drawn up the Central Lancashire Core Strategy which proposes developing the surrounding area from 2011 until the target date of 2026.
Both South Ribble and Chorley approved the plans earlier this month which includes proposals for 1.2m acres to be used for office development, business space and warehouses and sets out an affordable housing target of up to 35% in rural areas and 30% in urban areas.
Members of the public will inspect the document from June, before it is submitted to the Government.
The core strategy will then become part of each council's local development framework provided it is approved.
Great news for potential investment in the area and let’s hope this is backed up with the social infrastructure of doctors, dentists and such like and the physical infrastructre of transport, highways, water, energy and waste are these brought online before the assets are over stretched and sweated to a grease spot.
