Ormskirk wedding venue jilted
A scheme that would have seen the former Ring O’Bells pub in Lathom demolished and replaced with a 33,000 sq ft wedding venue has been turned down due to Green Belt concerns.
The five-acre site, located off Ring O’Bells Lane in Ormskirk, has been vacant since the pub closed down around four years ago.
Developer Country Barns proposed knocking down the pub and constructing a farmstead-style wedding venue. Plans for the U-shaped development featured a ceremony space, a function room, a bar, a bridal suite and an outside seating area.
However, West Lancashire Council rejected the plans, claiming the proposal constituted “inappropriate development in the Green Belt”.
In addition, the council stated the development could cause “significant” harm to residential amenity and that demolishing the vacant pub would cause the “unjustified loss of a community facility”.
Townscape Planning & Heritage Consultants advised Country Barns on planning, and the scheme was designed by SDA Architecture.
Ah, West Lancs Council: the answer’s no, now what’s the question?

Completely disengaged from local history, conservation and saving a local landmark. Try incorporating the existing asset!

Well it looks a lot better than the derelict looking building that is there now and which will only get worse the longer it is left
