Igloo Regeneration’s chief executive was in the Scheming hot seat to discuss trying to make the world a better place one home at a time, turning down a job at Manchester United, and how the financial crash put paid to plans to regenerate his local city.

Igloo’s Peter Connolly, who has been with the firm almost 20 years, lifted the lid on the company’s Footprint approach to regeneration, which ensures its projects have a net benefit for the planet, communities, and customers.

“We put as much focus into the social impact of the schemes as the financial returns,” he said.

Scheming is a Place North podcast series that provides some of the biggest names in property the chance to talk about three schemes they think about a lot:

  • The one they are most proud of
  • The one that got away
  • Their dream scheme

Connolly also talked about his love of Manchester United, the important role large clubs have to play in shaping their places, and what he would do if he was in charge of the club’s biggest ever project.

“If money was no object, and as a lifelong season ticket holder, I think the job that you would want to be doing is the regeneration of the stadium and the surrounding area,” he said.

“It is really important the whole regeneration project is done in the right way.”
