The houses will be built on part of Llangefni’s Coleg Menai campus.

The development is being completed in two separate, but linked, schemes. Grwp Llandrillo Menai, which oversees the operation of Coleg Menai, is creating 91 homes across two plots of land. Clwyd Alyn Housing Association is constructing 60 houses on another two plots.

Plans for a housing development on college-owned land have been in the works for a while, with the council granting outline permission for the scheme in 2017. The latest approvals are for reserved matters applications that include more details.

The original 2017 plans also featured a new engineering centre, which is now complete.

Layout Of Scheme

Layout of the housing scheme. Clywd Alyn Housing Association’s land is the large white area to the left of the largest blue outline.

The housing application focuses on four plots of land. Grwp Llandrillo Menai is developing open market homes on sites one and four.

Site one is 3.3 acres and will have 23 three-bedroom homes on it, as well as a play area for kids and a car park. It sits on the north-western part of the campus.

Site four is 12.6 acres and will have 68 homes on it. Sitting on the southern end of the campus, the houses will be a mixture of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties. Regarding the homes, 12 will have three bedrooms, 44 will have four bedrooms and 12 will have five bedrooms.

Homes on both plots will have their own private garden to the rear and at least two parking spaces.

Clywd Alyn Housing Association owns two plots on the western side of the campus, having purchased the land from Grwp Llandrillo Menai in 2019. These sites come in at a combined 4.2 acres and will be filled with affordable housing. Plans call for 25 two-bedroom houses, 19 three-bedroom homes and 16 two-bedroom apartments to be built there.

Cadnant Planning worked with Grwp Llandrillo Menai on its scheme, while Caulmert led planning for Clywd Alyn Housing Association.
