First Choice completes £6m Oldham resi

Tyson Construction worked with the housing association to deliver 38 affordable and eco-friendly houses off Cherry Avenue.

First Choice Homes Oldham has announced that work has completed on its transformation of the vacant brownfield plot to deliver 10 two- and 28 three-bedroom properties.

All homes are available for affordable rent, as well as being designed to be 15% more energy efficient than minimum building requirements. Energy saving features include increased ground floor, wall, and loft insulation to help make homes cheaper to heat.

First Choice received £1.5m grant funding from Homes England for the £6m scheme.

The development is part of the company’s goal to deliver 1,100 sustainable properties in Oldham and its surrounding areas between 2020 and 2026.

Joel Owen, director of development at First Choice, said: “We are acutely aware of the desperate need for more affordable housing in Oldham, where demand far outstrips supply.

“We are delighted to have worked with our partners including Oldham Council to bring forward a scheme that has transformed a former brownfield site, providing a mix of modern, high-quality homes and prioritising sustainability, all to benefit residents.”

Throughout the build, Tyson Construction carried out improvements in the local area such as clearing rubbing and preparing a local café to make it more usable.

Owen said: “Important too is the work that Tyson Construction has done to support the local area during the build, and we’re pleased to be working with a contractor who shares our commitment to creating social value.”
