Contractor race starts on £17m Blackpool hotel
Muse Developments and partner Blackpool Council have launched the tender process for the Holiday Inn hotel at the long-running Talbot Gateway scheme.
The project involves the demolition of the existing Wilko store currently occupying the site, next to Blackpool North station, and the construction of a five-storey hotel with 144 bedrooms, along with the widening of the existing pedestrian underpass and the creation of a temporary surface car park.
Planning permission was granted for the Leach Rhodes Walker-designed hotel in July 2017, with the hotel also set to offer conferencing facilities and ground floor retail.
Wilko is due to relocate to the second phase of the Houndshill shopping centre, which owner New Frontier Properties secured consent for in September 2017.
According to The Chest procurement portal, expressions of interest are invited up to 15 August, with an appointment to be made in October, running up to spring 2022.
The first phase of Talbot Gateway saw the development of a Sainsbury’s supermarket, multi-storey car park and 120,000 sq ft of offices occupied by the council and Slater Gordon Motor Insurance. Earlier this year, the council set aside £1.25m to advance a third phase as it looks to add further office space.
