FC United ground wins consent
Manchester City Council has approved plans for a new stadium for FC United of Manchester in Newton Heath.
FC United was founded five years ago by Manchester United FC fans angry at the takeover of the club by the Glazer family and currently plays at Bury FC's ground.
Preston and Manchester-based Frank Whittle Partnership is leading the team behind the FC United vision.
David Robinson, managing partner at FWP, said: "The plan approved by the council will give FC United a modern facility which will also be of great benefit to the local community.
"We are looking forward to bringing our experience in stadium building project management to this exciting vision for the club as it continues to move forward on and off the pitch."
The new 5,000 capacity stadium will cost £3.5m to build, of which £1.5m will come from grant funding, with a further £500,000 from donations.
The club has raised £500,000 from a community share issue and hopes to raise £1.5m this way, with any shortfall covered by debt funding.
