Liverpool PCT rolls out health centres
Liverpool Primary Care Trust has opened its twelfth new health centre, a £6m development in Mere Lane, Everton.
The latest centre follows the opening in January of a similar facility in nearby Townsend Lane in January.
NHS Merseyside, which sits above Liverpool PCT, has spent £70m on health facilities in deprived communities since 2007.
Gideon Ben-Tovim, chairman of Liverpool PCT, said: "The New Health Service for Liverpool is the most ambitious health programme the city has seen. When we outlined our plans we had a vision of delivering a wider range of services closer to people's homes, to make it more convenient and quicker for patients to access them.
"As we ready ourselves for handing over our commissioning responsibilities to Clinical Commissioning Groups, I'm delighted to see that the Neighbourhood Health Centres and the NHS Treatment Centre are already making a huge difference to the communities they serve. We are confident the programme will have a long-term impact on improving the health of Liverpool as a whole and will be a lasting legacy to the city."
The project was delivered by Liverpool & Sefton Health Partnership with building contractor Galliford Try and MBLA Architects.
