Lab specialist undergoes restructuring

In July, Zeb Ahmed will become the chief executive of Rochdale-based BES, which provides design and construction consultancy services to pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms and blue chip businesses.

Ahmed is the current managing director designate at BES, having joined the company in January from Bouygues Energies & Services Contracting UK where he was deputy managing director.

Ahmed is a chartered European process engineer. He is a graduate of Oxford University and had a triple fellowship with the Institute of Chemical Engineers, Energy Institute and Institute of Directors.

As chief executive at BES, Ahmed will be charged with running the day-to-day business of the company and delivering commercial strategy.

Under the restructuring plans, engineering director Paul Marsh will become the chief operating officer.

Current BES managing director Steve Marsh will become the chairman of the company in July. He will retain strategic and financial oversight of the business.

BES has an office in Milton Keynes in addition to Rochdale. The £100m turnover company employs 180 people. It was founded 20 years ago.

Steve Marsh said: “After 20 years of success, the company is well-positioned to achieve our vision of becoming the leading and largest multi-disciplinary specialist in the cGMP facility consultancy, design and delivery sector. The changes to our board and the addition of Zeb to our leadership team will enable us to do that.”

Ahmed agreed. “With single point accountability delivered through BES’s industry-leading in-house capabilities, we have an opportunity to further strengthen our position as one of the UK’s leading integrated, process engineering-led, multidisciplinary engineering cGMP facility solution providers.”
