We’re looking for a senior civil engineer to join our Manchester or Liverpool studio, to lead an exceptional team of engineers and technicians in delivering inspirational civil engineering design with a focus on carbon reduction, climate resilience and nature-based solutions that have a positive impact on the environment, and enable people to lead happier and healthier lives.

We continue to be at the forefront of engineering design, and our award-winning team delivers multi-million-pound regeneration projects of national strategic significance. These include Mayfield Park, Manchester’s first city centre park in over a century; the critically acclaimed Altrincham Public Realm transformation, and Climate Innovation District in Leeds, one of the largest sustainable projects in the UK.

As a senior civil engineer you will support the creation of new landmark neighbourhoods, parks and infrastructure across the UK, including Manchester, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Oldham, Prestwich, Chorlton and Stretford. You will collaborate with our team in our Leeds studio on projects in Leeds, Sheffield, York and Newcastle.

You will support the design and delivery of transformational active travel projects, reclaiming road space to provide safe and attractive walking, cycling and wheeling infrastructure alongside nature-based sustainable drainage systems and places to play and spend time.

       Our vision and values:

Our aim is to create and revitalise spaces, structures and neighbourhoods so communities can flourish and thrive, having a positive impact on the environment and unlocking the power of place and community. Our people are:

      • Collaborative – exploring not exploiting
      • Curious – listening and learning
      • Helpful – building not destroying
      • Ingenious – re-using not just using
      • Passionate – creating a lasting inclusive legacy

As an employer we are passionate about creating a work environment that is inclusive and welcoming, where each team member can express themselves, be themselves and use their creative uniqueness to make a difference.

      Key Elements of the Job:

      • Team Management: Lead and mentor project teams, overseeing engineers of varying experience levels, from Apprentices to Principals
      • Project Leadership: Take charge of multiple projects, ensuring they meet or exceed quality standards and deadlines. Engage with clients, collaborators, and stakeholders while efficiently allocating resources and coordinating processes according to Civic Engineers’ QMS and IMS
      • Development and Training: Assist in the development of junior team members, identifying training needs, equipment requirements, and software licenses
      • Project Profitability: Monitor project profitability, striving to deliver projects within budget and timelines, and communicate any potential billing or labor plan changes to project associates or directors
      • Client Relations: Maintain and enhance Civic Engineers’ reputation in client-facing roles, contribute to securing repeat business, and identify new opportunities. Participate in bids for new projects as needed

      Skills:

      • In-depth understanding of industry processes, including planning applications, procurement, and technical approvals.
      • Proficiency in industry software like Microdrainage, Causeway Flow, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD.
      • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, graphical).
      • Exceptional report-writing skills.
      • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
      • High proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Word).
      • Commercial awareness.
      • Strong teamwork and time management skills.
