Declining sales and store closures from the Big Four supermarkets, stagnant growth in the non-food sector, the ever present spectre of internet sales and the rise of the discounters – do town centres have a future?
This event will provide an update of trends within the retail and associated sectors and what implications these have for the future of town centres and wider economic growth.
The event will examine the potential winners and losers and assess how retailers, developers and local authorities can react to these trends to ensure the future health of their economies and promote vital and viable town centres. Speakers will provide examples of recent successes where town centres have been successful in reinventing themselves and review whether the Government’s changes to Permitted Development Rights and other guidance
has had any impact ‘on the ground’.
