This seminar aims to keep property professionals up to date with the case law regarding private sector residential tenancies.

The speaker will be Richard Smith, Sheffield Hallam, who will cover the following topics:

    Creation of tenancies
    Rent review provisions, determining market rents
    Rent arrears
    Conversion of Protected Shortholds into Assured Shortholds
    The tenancy deposit scheme and penalties
    The statutory periodic tenancy
    Termination of shorthold tenancies
    Repairing obligations
  • Long residential leases
    Leasehold reform: enfranchisement, lease extensions, abolition of residential test, meaning of house, etc.
    Expiry of long leases
    Service charges
