RICS – Commercial Leases Update

The speaker will provide an update on the law relating to commercial leases with reference to recent case law. Topics to be covered include : • The new Code of Practice for commercial leases • Lease renewal and termination under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 • Rent review and rent arrears • Default notices under the Landlord and Tenant (Covenants) Act 1995 • Landlords liability after assignment of the reversion • Setting-off rent in respect of a claim against a landlord • Assignment and subletting – restrictions and refusal of consent • Surrender of leases • Forfeiture • Dilapidations. The speaker is Richard Smith, Sheffield Hallam University.
