Location: Metropolitan Cathedral steps (Mann Island for other tour)
The RIBA is pleased to announce the return of its popular RIBA Liverpool City Tours in May.
Telling the story of Liverpool past, present and future, the tours put the spotlight on key buildings and spaces that form part of the contemporary city landscape, its characters, its commerce and its culture.
Two tours will run regularly; 'Liverpool: Gateway to the World' which looks at the waterfront and surrounding area whilst 'Liverpool: City of Culture, Learning and Faiths' focuses on and around Hope Street. In addition, there will be a number of special tours running during the summer examining different areas of the city including Liverpool ONE.
The RIBA Liverpool City Tours were recently named as one of the 10 best architecture tours in the UK by the Independent newspaper.
Andrew Ruffler, director of RIBA North West, said: "Liverpool has a rich architectural heritage that we believe should be celebrated and the tours are an ideal way to do this. Thanks to our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides, people on the tours will be able to discover more about the history of key buildings in the city centre and learn more about the role they have played in the story of Liverpool."
The tours start again on Saturday 4 May and will finish on Wednesday 30 October. 'Liverpool: City of Culture, Learning and Faiths' runs each Saturday at 10.30am, 'Liverpool: Gateway to the World' runs Sundays at 11am and Wednesdays at 2.00pm.
