Manchester music legend Heather Small will be performing at GVA Grimley’s Charity Ball in aid of Mencap on Saturday 14th June 2008. The event, now in its second year, will once again take place at Manchester’s Hilton hotel on Deansgate and will attempt to beat last year’s amazing £50,000 total raised for the Charity. The theme for this year’s ball is ‘The Greatest Show On Earth’, and promises awe-inspiring circus performers and outstanding acrobats, as well as a sumptuous three-course meal. Proceeds from the event will all go to Mencap to help raise funds for projects such as their Gateway Award Scheme, which helps develop self-confidence and personal skills in people with learning disabilities. At a Gateway expedition, attended by GVA Grimley, which took place on 10th and 11th May 2008, at Cheshire Scouts’ “Forest Camp” in Sandiway, 12 participants with a learning disability took part in their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. GVA Grimley staff at the expedition included Nicola Rigby, Denise McCarthy and Laura Johnson from the Manchester office, all are on the firm’s charity committee and Nicola has been heavily involved in the planning for this year’s ball. GVA staff acted as mentors for the Gateway participants, helping them with various exercises including setting up tents, map reading/orienteering and camp cooking. Mark Rawstron, Senior Regional Director at GVA Grimley’s Manchester office comments; “Last year’s ball was a huge success and this year’s promises to be a great spectacle, that will hopefully raise even more money for a fantastic charity. This year, we have managed to secure a performance from Manchester artist, Heather Small, who will provide first class entertainment for all the guests attending this special evening”. A limited number of tables are still available for this year’s Ball, so to make sure you don’t miss out please call 0161 968 9269 or e-mail nwfundraising@mencap.org.uk
