The Economic Outlook & the Credit Crunch TOPIC: Outlook for Economic Growth and Inflation SPEAKER: John Young – Bank of England John Young joined the Bank of England in 1998 and has been its Agent for the North West since 2003. His role is to report to the Monetary Policy Committee on economic conditions as seen by businesses in the region. Before working for the Bank he studied economics at Sussex University and held a variety of research positions in commercial and investment banks. John will cover the following: Outlook for economic growth and inflation Key risks to the UK economy Challenges to the policy framework TOPIC: Keeping Redundant Apprentices in the Industry SPEAKERS: Tom McNeil and Tanya Robbins – ConstructionSkills ConstructionSkills have three projects, one in Greater Merseyside and two in the remainder of the NW. The aim of the projects is to work with displaced (redundant) apprentices, to enable them to complete their apprenticeship framework and/or re-enter full time employment. In this project, ConstructionSkills aim to establish one ‘Employer Pool’ in Merseyside and two in the remainder of the North West. (The Employer Pool Project is funded by the North West Learning Skills Council). 8am – 9.30am
