Work starts on Maryport business centre
Construction is to start on a new £1.9m, 15,000 sq ft business centre in Maryport, Cumbria, which it is hoped will create up to 40 new jobs and provide much-needed space for small to medium enterprises.
Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the North West Development Agency, will cut the first sod of Maryport Business Centre on the site of the former British Industrial Plastics factory on Solway Trading Estate at a ceremony tomorrow.
The centre received £650,000 from West Lakes Renaissance, via the NWDA, £950,000 from the European Regional Development Fund and a further £300,000 from the West Cumbria Development Fund. Cumbria County Council, who previously bought the land, will own the centre and seek a partner organisation to manage the workspace which will include studios and a small workshop.
Capita Symonds designed the building and construction will be carried out by Stobbarts. Cumbria County Council is client for the works contract and West Lakes Renaissance will project manage the development.
