Work starts on 164-home St Helens scheme

Countryside Partnerships has started enabling work to pave the way for a residential scheme in Thatto Heath.

Working in conjunction with Torus Developments, Countryside plans to start building the first of the 164 homes in June.

The St Helens scheme will see the creation of 83 affordable homes and 81 available on the open market. They will be constructed on a 12.6-acre site between Thatto Heath Road and Elm Road.

A spokesperson from Countryside Partnerships Merseyside & Cheshire West, said: “Starting work is always a great milestone and we can’t wait to deliver these quality new homes for people living in the local area.”

The site has been earmarked for residential development for around 30 years but issues around viability have stymied progress.

To unlock the site, the project is being supported by funding from the Liverpool City Region’s brownfield land fund.

“Without the additional government funding, the site would not have been brought forward and would have remained redundant,” the spokesperson added.

“It’s a great demonstration of our partnerships business model, which utilises the skills and resources of multiple partners to deliver the best outcomes.”

Countryside and Torus are also working together in Warrington where the partnership recently acquired the 170-acre Peel Hal site for more than £100m, as first reported by Place North West.
