Work starts on 105,000 sq ft industrial next to Salford stadium
Fourteen years after the rugby ground completed, construction of the first employment development on the neighbouring 42 acres is underway.
A JV between Chancerygate and CBRE has appointed Stainforth Construction to build the 105,000 sq ft logistics scheme, which will offer units ranging from 6,150 sq ft to 23,500 sq ft.
Planning consent for the 11-acre Westside was granted last summer and construction is expected to wrap up by autumn 2027.
Chancerygate’s development manager, Andy Farrer, said: “Westside will address the demand from SME occupiers across Salford, Greater Manchester and the wider North West for high specification well-connected space within an established location.
“The scheme will deliver high-quality industrial accommodation, combining strong sustainability credentials with excellent access to transport links and motorway infrastructure.”

The commencement of construction is welcome progress for the planned redevelopment of the land around the CorpAcq Stadium, home to Sale Sharks, which has failed to materialise in the years since the ground completed.
There are 42 acres of developable land around the stadium. So far, an Aldi and a pub have been built but industrial space has been elusive.
In 2024, Cole Waterhouse pulled out of plans to deliver 300,000 sq ft of shed space close to the ground.
The land around the 12,000-seater stadium forms part of the Western Gateway growth zone, which includes Port Salford and is the subject of plans to establish a Mayoral Development Corporation to ramp up delivery.
Salford City Council, which owns the stadium, is drawing up a masterplan for the remaining land around it.
Does the pub and Aldi not count as employment?
The stadium is also home to Salford RLFC – the club it was built for.

Council drawing up a masterplan to build on all car parking space then to send all the traffic wardens out on match days to give tickets too anyone who wants to park anywhere near the ground, they will kill the stadium off eventually .

Who doesnt love a stadium in the middle of an industrial estate? What an awful mess this has ended up being for Salford Council. Poor strategic masterplanning.

It would be hugely welcome to finally redevelop the wasted land around the stadium and there’s lots of space around the side of the ground for parking but there MUST be an improvement to the road network
