Work starts at Liverpool’s Times Hotel

Newry Construction has begun work on the £20m Times Hotel by Vincent in the city’s Ropewalks district for developer Elliot Group.

The 116-room Seel Street hotel, a later addition to Elliot’s neighbouring £40m Wolstenholme Square project, will be operated by well-known hospitality entrepreneur Paul Adams, the man behind Southport’s Vincent Hotel and its sister operation, the Vincent Café & Cocktail Bar on Liverpool’s Exchange Flags.

The hotel, designed by Falconer Chester Hall, is scheduled to open in late spring 2018 and will include a rooftop pool and spa.

Elliot Lawless of Elliot Goup said: “We’ve just completed Block A at Wolstenholme Square so it’s pleasing to see that the rest of the project is pushing on.

“You can now get a real sense of what we promised at the outset, and how the scale of our buildings mirrors what stood here before the Luftwaffe came calling.

“Whilst we can never recreate structures like the wonderful old Valspar factory, we can bring back its scale and massing and animate the ground floors.”

Block A at Wolstenholme Square

Wolstenholme Square was laid out in 1750 as a residential square, with most of its Georgian buildings subsequently redeveloped in the nineteenth century.

Although some original buildings remain on the square’s western side, most of the square was heavily bomb-damaged in the Blitz, with its buildings replaced with warehousing in the post-war years.

Elliot Group’s plans for Wolstenholme Square include 447 studio and one-bedroom apartments spread across four blocks.

A further site to the north of the square was acquired from social care charity PSS in June, bringing a further 205 apartments in a £36m scheme also designed by FCH.

Looking good this whole area a hidden gem.

‘a hidden gem’? It really isn’t hidden.

Slightly puzzled by all those people wandering around half-naked beside an outdoor pool on a roof under a bright blue sky. This is Liverpool, Bermuda, we’re talking about, right?
