Work on 84 affordable homes begins

MCI Developments, a subsidiary of Keepmoat Homes, has begun work on three sites across Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

Of the three projects, two are for 37 affordable homes and one will provide 10 affordable homes.

Oswaldtwistle

Developed in partnership with Places for People, the two-acre site will host 37 homes at affordable rent.

In an application submitted by Mosaic Town Planning, plans detail the construction of 27 semi-detached and mews properties as well as 10 semi-detached townhouses.

All the homes will have either two or three beds.

The development is taking place on derelict brownfield land, on the site of the now-demolished Rhyddings Mill.

Craig Murphy, regional managing director, Central and North at Places for People, said: “We are committed to bringing forward housing that meets the needs of local people.

“This site on the grounds of the former Rhyddings Mill gives us the opportunity to provide much-needed affordable new homes in a once derelict part of Oswaldtwistle.

He continued: “Where we can, we will deliver on a brownfield first approach, and work in partnerships to deliver thriving communities. We look forward to seeing this development progress and to welcome our new customers in Summer 2025.”

The Rhyddings Mill project is expected to be complete by winter 2025.

Tyldesley

Construction on another 37 houses off Shakerley Road in Tyldesley has also begun.

The development will consist of 17 two-beds, 14 three-beds, and six single-bed homes.

Once finished, the properties will be managed by the housing association Torus.

All homes will be available for affordable rent.

Chris Bowen, managing director at Torus, said: “This is part of the growing portfolio of homes we are building in Wigan and more widely across the North West in general.

“Situated in a popular location, these modern and desirable properties will help meet demand for high-quality affordable housing in the area, giving more people a chance to enjoy having homes.”

MCI Developments is the contractor for this project.

The scheme’s completion is expected towards the end of next year.

Leigh

Additionally, work began on a further 10 homes at the Waterside Point development in Leigh.

The housing mix is split between four flats, five two-bed homes, and one three-bed house.

The project is being run by a joint venture between MCI Developments and Your Housing Group.

MCI Developments is the main contractor for both phases of the Waterside Point development.

Construction will take place on the half-acre brownfield site, which was previously home to a nightclub and gym.

Lorraine Donnelly, director of development at Your Housing Group, commented: “These extra plots at the Waterside Point site in Leigh, which all offer shared ownership, will be a welcome addition to the development bringing the total number of properties available to 236.

“This relationship with MCI underlines our ongoing commitment to delivering more people a safe place to call home.”

The project is expected to be complete this winter.
