Work begins on Dong Energy windfarm base

Construction has started on global offshore wind giant Dong Energy’s £5.5m operations and maintenance facility at Kings Wharf, Seacombe.

Robertson North West, part of the £300m turnover infrastructure group Robertson, has begun on site on the western shore of the River Mersey, at the entrance to the Birkenhead dock system.

The 22,000 sq ft base will house 45 full-time staff, serving the Burbo Bank wind farm off the shore of the Irish Coast, as well as the Burbo Bank Extension due for completion in 2017.

Office space, changing, welfare and ancillary facilities will be arranged over two floors, with a single storage warehouse.

Brian McMorrow, senior construction engineer at Dong Energy, said: “It was important for us to use a regionally based construction company so we’re really pleased to be working with Robertson North West. Dong Energy is committed to investing in the UK and we are very proud to be playing an important role in the redevelopment of this part of Kings Wharf.”

Completion is scheduled for mid-2017.
