Wirral RSL to demolish tower blocks
Registered social landlord Wirral Partnership Homes said it intends to reduce the number of high rise housing blocks it owns by nearly half.
The RSL, which owns 12,000 homes in the borough, plans to reduce its towers from 15 to 9. Two are to be decommissioned and demolished. Consultation is ongoing with tenants over the other four. Options include demolishing the blocks and redeveloping the land or selling the land to another developer.
As well as the receipts for any blocks sold, the Birkenhead-based group will make significant cost savings on the move and has already revised down contracts for installation work in its blocks.
WPH reported a loss of £14.9m on turnover of £43.5m in the 12 months to the end of March, 2008. The company was established in 2005 to manage stock transferred from the local authority.
