Wirral greenlights 217-home Bromborough plans

Persimmon Homes has been granted permission to build a neighbourhood of one- to four-bedroom homes off Southwood Road.

The housebuilder took control of the site in January having held outline consent for its redevelopment into Riverside Park since 2022.

With reserved matters consent now secured, Persimmon can push ahead with plans to build 217 homes – including 33 for intermediate or affordable rent.

Around 4.5 acres of the wider 18-acre site would be preserved as public open space, the developer said.

Previously, the site had been owned by two SPVs, Riverside Park and Cheshire Office Park, which acquired the land in 2005.

At that time, plans were to develop the land as a seven-building business park, rather than a residential scheme. These plans were only partially delivered, resulting in only three buildings being constructed.

The office buildings that currently occupy the site will be knocked down to pave the way for Persimmon’s scheme.

Ian Hilliker, managing director at Persimmon North West, said: “We’re delighted to have secured this permission to deliver 217 high-quality new homes in Bromborough.

“I would like to thank Wirral Council for working with us to bring forward this development, delivering much-needed homes for local people.

“We now look forward to creating a vibrant development the whole community can be proud of.”

No character at all in these off the shelf designs, on any rail or road journey nowadays these estates look the same up and down the country, it might be different if there was more detail but they’re just soulless.

Riverside park only occupied for a few months then left empty. Council spent £ 20 million on office block in downtown Birkenhead! Which is still unoccupied. Why didn’t they use the Riverside & use the money on something else a disgrace to watch it being demolished
