Wigan approves housing on recycling site

Planning approval has been granted to Gleeson Homes & Regeneration to build 51 homes on a former recycling site on Frog Lane in Wigan town centre.

The Frog Lane site was formerly home to a household recycling centre but was closed in 2010 and has been empty since.

Cllr David Molyneux, deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “It’s great to see a vacant site being put to good use and this will help boost the local economy and improve the look of the area.

“It is vital that we support appropriate housing development in the borough to keep up with demand for housing and help support growth in our local economy.

“Homes on this site will support growth in the east-west core of the borough and allow for further regeneration in the area. It is a great location, close to the town centre and local services.

“Good quality new housing along with improved transport links and employment opportunities provides the right mix to keep our local economy growing.”
