Whitecroft begins Chester Shot Tower regeneration

Work has started at Chester’s listed shot tower and former leadworks, with main contractor CPUK delivering a restoration and development of 78 homes.

Altrincham-based Whitecroft Group is behind the project, and has been seeking to develop the plot on the Shropshire Union Canal for a number of years. The current scheme was approved in 2018, and was a reworking of an earlier proposal set to be brought forward with Neptune Developments and consented in 2016.

The revised development, designed by DLA Design, includes 54 one- and two-bedroom apartments, 15 two- and three-bedroom duplex apartments and three four-bedroom townhouses. The project includes repair work to the tower and future-proofing of the retained buildings.

The homes are concentrated into two main wings in red brick, intended to complement the grade two-listed 40m tower.
