Westchurch moots affordable homes for Newton

Developer Westchurch Homes plans to build 39 affordable homes in Newton-with-Scales, five miles west of Preston, and has submitted an application to Fylde Council.

The scheme would be built on land off Oak Lane, and comprises a mix of two-to-four-bedroom detached, semi-detached and terraced homes.

The development would be served with access off Oak Lane to the south and also feature off-street parking and amenity space, including private gardens for each home and public landscaping.

An earlier application to build 30 homes at the same site received a resolution to grant planning permission but has yet to be determined.

The site forms part of a wider residential allocation defined in Fylde Council’s Local Plan. It also forms part of the local authority’s available housing land supply.

Sophie Turbefield, development manager at Westchurch Homes, said: “The application seeks to deliver homes suitable for a range of households including families, and would make a positive contribution to sustainable growth in Newton-with-Scales.

“Notwithstanding current events, the submission of this application is a milestone for Westchurch, and also for our on-going collaboration with registered providers.

“These partnerships are expected to provide huge benefits for communities and enable schemes to be built out quickly.”

Maybern Planning and Development is the planning agent for the application, and the wider project team includes MCK Associates, Trevor Bridge Associates, Mode Transport Planning, Reford, and Bowland Ecology.

Westchurch last October submitted plans for 106 affordable homes on land to the rear of Lightfoot Lane in Preston.
