Wates doubles team in Cumbria
Contractor Wates has added 15 staff at its Kendal office, nearly doubling the size of its team in the region as it continues work on its £30m Campus Whitehaven and BAE Systems’ central training facility in Barrow.
The contractor has increased its team from 18 to 33 members of staff, including adding five senior managers, and now has an order book of around £50m in the region.
It first opened premises at Helm Bank in Kendal in March last year. The office is headed up by project director Craig Abson alongside regional commercial manager Stefan Hargreaves.
Wates is also planning to add further roles to its team, including quantity surveyors, planners, and design managers.
The contractor has been on site at BAE’s £23.1m central training facility in February this year. The project will provide training and teaching space for the company’s submarine trade labour pool.
Tony Shenton, business unit director, Wates Construction North West, said: “We know that our continued success is down to the proficiency of our people and recruiting the best in the industry remains a huge priority for us.
“We are keen to recruit from within the county as well as encouraging those looking for a positive lifestyle change to come and experience the incredible landscape, outdoor adventure and countryside living on offer in Cumbria.”
