Warnings ahead of Metrolink and Euston closures

Two of the Greater Manchester tram network’s lines will be closed for improvement works over the Easter weekend, while Virgin services to London will terminate short of the capital.

Transport for Greater Manchester has said that on Saturday 20 April and Sunday 21 April there will be no services operating on Metrolink’s Bury line, while on Monday 22 April, services will only run between Piccadilly and Queens Road on that line.

In addition, no services will operate between Exchange Square and Monsall on the Rochdale line on Saturday 20 April and Sunday 21 April.

During this period a full bus replacement service will be in operation. Passengers can find details of replacement buses and their stops on TfGM’s travel advice page.

The engineering works include upgrades to the Crumpsall Metrolink stop in preparation for the opening of the Trafford Park line in 2020. It will also provide a more frequent service into the city centre for customers using the Crumpsall, Abraham Moss and Queens Road stops.

Head of Metrolink Danny Vaughan said: “By combining a number of essential upgrades over the Easter weekend we’re able to minimise the overall disruption to the network.

“We’re urging passengers to plan ahead and familiarise themselves with the bus replacement services to ensure they have a smooth and stress-free journey.”

Major events in the city this weekend include Manchester City’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday lunchtime and the St George’s Day paradefrom Miels Platting to the city centre on Monday, with road closures expected between 11.30am and 2.20pm.

London Euston is to be closed from midnight until the start of services on Tuesday. Services on Good Friday and Easter Monday will terminate at Harrow & Wealdstone, with tickets valid for the onward travel to Paddington, while Saturday and Sunday’s services will terminate at Milton Keynes Central.
