Warden completes £4.4m Prescot healthcare project
The contractor has delivered two operating theatres and a recovery ward at Whiston Hospital.
Warden Construction has completed the £4.4m project on behalf of VINCI Facilities and Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Prescot facility.
The scheme, which took a year to complete, involved the conversion of 12,000 sq ft of administration space to create the new medical facilities.
The project also involved alterations to sanitary installations, the extension of installations for medical gases and pneumatic tube systems, and the work to adapt a portion of the building’s facade, according to Warden.
Ian Williams, managing director at Warden Construction, said: “The new operating theatres and recovery ward will have a transformative impact on patients and hospital users, something that gives all of us a great deal of comfort and sense of achievement.
“This was a highly technical project because it involved reconfiguring lots of existing systems above occupied rooms and wards. In addition to these technical complexities, the project was logistically challenging as it was positioned directly above the main hospital entrance and throughfare.”
Elsewhere on the estate, St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals NHS Trust has applied to build a 37,000 sq ft extension amid plans to relocate its decontamination facility and endoscopy department.
