Wain Homes tries again in Galgate
Proposals for 93 homes have been lodged with Lancaster City Council 16 months after an earlier bid to redevelop the Highland Brow site was rejected at appeal.
Wain Homes’ proposals are for a mix of family houses on a 12-acre site in Galgate. The most recent application is the third the developer has put forward for the site in recent years.
Plans for 115 homes and then 108 were both rejected by Lancaster City Council. The latter was rejected at appeal after the planning inspector ruled Wain Homes had not satisfied the sequential test to see if there were other sites preferable for development to avoid flood risk.
Wain Homes claims to have satisfied this issue with the most recent application, adding that the city council’s housing land supply position – which stands at two years – should weigh in the project’s favour.

Flooding is just one problem. The access to this site is a logistical nightmare.
