Wain Estates puts forward Bury housing plans

Part of a site removed from the Green Belt when the Places for Everyone joint plan was adopted is to be redeveloped into 270 homes.

Wain Estates is consulting on proposals for a chunk of the 158-acre Walshaw allocation off Church Street and Scobell Street that include a 25% affordable provision.

Have your say on the plans.

Wain Estates aims to submit an outline planning application to Bury Council once the consultation ends on 9 September.

The entire Walshaw allocation within Places for Everyone could accommodate up to 1,250 homes in total but was almost pulled from the joint plan in 2022.

Bury Council sought to remove the site, which wraps around Stables Country Club south of Tottington, from PfE following the reassessment of the authority’s housing supply position.

However, the site ultimately remained in the plan and was released from the Green Belt upon its adoption earlier this year alongside two other large strategic sites: 313 acres at Elton Reservoir and 182 acres at Simister.

Wain Estates was contacted for comment.

Residents of Bury stitched up bigtime by Labour Councillors who have bragged about saving this plot and championing sticking up for residents. No later than 5 weeks after Labour win the election this is announced and the Labour Council are trying to push this through against the same residents who they swayed by saving it!

It’s great to see plans and applications coming through as part of Places for Everyone. It’s time we got on with it now.

Not everyone in Bury is against these plans, the greenbelt/keep it green brigade need to stop applying delaying tactics… People need houses!
