Vistry prepares to pull trigger on 1,500 homes in Wigan

With just 186 of the 1,800 homes consented delivered to date, the housebuilder wants to crack on with the rest of the 178-acre North Leigh Park development.

Vistry is holding a consultation on plans for 1,500 homes and a new road link between Leigh Road in Hindley Green and Atherleigh Way, ahead of the submission of a planning application.

The site, which has had outline consent for 1,800 homes since 2013, is located to the south-east of Wigan.

It comprises mostly vacant land and is bordered by two main roads, the A577 to the north and A578 to the west with Westleigh High School to the south-east of the site.

Matthew Parkes, managing director, Vistry Manchester and Cheshire East, said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward the next phases of North Leigh Park and continuing to work with Wigan Council, the Government and the local community to deliver much-needed new homes in this part of the borough.

“This is a significant opportunity to prevent a complex former industrial site becoming a long-term environmental problem and instead turn it into a well-planned new neighbourhood, with new homes, green spaces, local facilities and improved connections.

“We want to hear from local people about the proposals, and we would encourage anyone with an interest to attend the exhibition, view the plans and share their views.”

An in-person consultation session will be held next Thursday, 22 January, at Leigh Sports Village from 3pm until 7pm.
