VIDEO | GMI advances Manchester Airport hotel
Base slabs have been completed and the reinforced concrete frame is rising from the ground at the second Dakota hotel to be built in Manchester by the contractor.
Scheduled to open in 2026, the 154-bedroom Dakota Manchester Airport will provide a seven-storey hotel under the high-end Dakota brand, the hotel arm of Yorkshire real estate business Evans Property Group.
GMI has previously delivered Dakota hotels in Manchester’s Piccadilly Basin and in Leeds and Glasgow, while a Newcastle waterfront project is currently undergoing conversion from offices under the contractor’s stewardship, with opening expected soon.
Designed by KPP Architects, Dakota Manchester Airport is located off Bailey Lane, within the 60-acre MIX Manchester science, innovation, and manufacturing campus.
Marc Banks, director of Evans Property Group, described GMI as “a partner that understands our vision”.
He added: “Dakota Manchester Airport will embody the same unique experience our guests have come to expect, and it will prove a key asset for the airport and travellers alike, bringing our signature design and hospitality to one of the UK’s most important travel hubs.”
Anthony Judge, GMI’s regional director, North West, said: “We are making excellent progress, with the ground floor slabs laid and reinforced concrete frame structure rising rapidly. This boutique hotel will be a standout addition to Manchester Airport, offering travellers style, comfort, and hospitality.”
GMI is also currently delivering a Premier Inn in Manchester, and has recently completed CityLabs 4.0 for Bruntwood SciTech. The firm is also nearing completion on No 3 Circle Square, GMI’s largest project to date at £90m, also for Bruntwood SciTech.
