UCLan plans £11m leisure centre

The University of Central Lancashire, in Preston, is planning to spend £11m building a new leisure centre on its campus.

The 60,000 sq ft building will include a pre-school nursery alongside a recreation hall, changing rooms, a fitness centre with weights and activity rooms, squash court, a café and viewing gallery.

The university is hoping to achieve a minimum BREEAM rating of 'very good' for the environmental sustainability of the building.

An existing building on Marsh Lane and Leighton Street will be demolished to make way for the project.

The design-and-build project is due for completion in December 2010. The Leeds office of Drivers Jonas is advising UCLan.
