Two more schemes announced by Laurus

Laurus Homes have announced two developments at former educational sites in Greater Manchester.

The developments will offer a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes with options for sale and rent, with Help to Buy equity loans and shared ownership available.

Pembroke Green will be situated in Walkden on the site of Salford College’s former Walkden campus. The development overlooks Parr Fold Park, close to the Ellesmere shopping centre and Walkden Retail Park.

Designed by Clitheroe-based Sunderland Peacock Architects, the scheme is to be delivered by Warrington contractor Lane End, and is the latest project from the joint venture between Trafford Housing Trust, parent company of Laurus Homes, and London housing association L&Q.

The second development, also with L&Q, is in Whalley Range, a mile south of Manchester city centre, on land formerly occupied by St Bede’s College, and will be named Scholars Walk. This will be a townhouse scheme designed by architect Paddock Johnson to fit in with the area’s Victorian housing.

Homes at both sites will be available in late 2018. Laurus, which was set up by THT as its private housebuilding arm in 2015, also recently announced projects in Delamere Forest and Daresbury, along with the £2.4m mixed-use redevelopment of the White Lion pub in Stockport town centre, partnering with the local council. The L&Q arrangement was agreed last year as the group signified its intention to expand its ambitions beyond THT’s historic geographic area.

Larry Gold, deputy chief executive of Trafford Housing Trust, said: “Pembroke Green and Scholars Walk will provide much-needed new homes for locals across a range of tenures, including shared ownership and rent.

“As a profit-for-purpose organisation, we have been able to use profits made on previous developments to offer more shared ownership homes than were required to at planning stage, which we expect to be a big helping hand to locals looking to get on the property ladder.”
