Trafford Housing Trust to start Forton project
A 60-home scheme, including 40% affordable provision, has been given the green light by Wyre Council.
The development sits on a six-acre site off Hollins Lane in Forton, Lancashire, and is being brought forward under Trafford Housing Trust’s Laurus Homes brand.
The scheme’s value is £11m, according to Trafford Housing Trust. Work is expected to begin on site this month and complete by March 2022.
Known as Hollins Lane, Forton, the project comprises a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, eight of which are bungalows, and a children’s play area.
Of the total, 24 will be offered for affordable rent or shared ownership.
Forton Council had initially objected to the scheme citing concerns over excessive urbanisation of Hollins Lane.
Fred Crawshaw, senior commercial manager at Trafford Housing Trust, said: “Wyre Council has identified a significant need for affordable housing in the borough, and these new homes will help to address those requirements.”
MCI Developments, which is a subsidiary of housebuilder Keepmoat Homes, is acting as architect and lead contractor for the project. SurveyEng, Trevor Bridge Associates and Richard Eaves are also on the project team.
MCI’s managing director Alex Wood, said: “We are looking forward to delivering the scheme for Trafford Housing Trust. We hope this will be the first of a number of sites that MCI will deliver in partnership with the trust.”
L&Q acquired Trafford Housing Trust in October 2019.
This will be the fifth and largest development to commence on Hollins Lane in the past three years, two others of which have commenced in the past three months. The new housing addition of sixty will add to the current fifty odd work in progress, with hundreds more in the main Forton vicinity in the pipeline.
